POINTS
To clarify the scoring:
A team with no opponents at all, because they are playing the 'invisible' team or because both opposing team members fail to arrive, will play against its own blind scores to decide points.
Please see David or Paul if you have any further queries regarding points. Sadly, the more this is explained, the more complicated it sounds. It's easy really.
NATIONALS 2010
In the next couple of weeks BHYBC should receive details regarding next year Nationals. Breaking News
Aaron has been observed by the instructors actually putting his new knowledge to use and bowling a little differently. This has resulted in a new personal high series; his first badge since summer 2008. Could it mean that training actually works? Mind you, you have to listen to learn!
Saturdays 17th, 24th and 31st October 2009
NEW WEBSITE RUN BY MEMBERS
Glen has set up www.bexleyheathybc.webs.com
He is providing information and running some competitions. The committee wish him success. Anything that maintains team spirit and interest in the club is a good thing.
Just for the record, the YBC committee has no involvement with the site or its content and won't be monitoring it. That does mean that we won't know what you're doing. Which may be a good thing for all!
Good luck.

NEW LEAGUE SETUP
The new Doubles league started on 17 October.
The opening average is that achieved in the abandoned singles league.
Some teams were allocated a temporary name. Tell David or Martin if you want to change it.
The points to be won are 2 per game and 2 for the series making 8 in all.
Blind scores are 90% of average. We do not have an even number of teams so each week a different team plays 'Invisible Opponents'. Their score will be your blind score so, put another way, you have to bowl in excess of 90% of your average to win points.
Each team removed from the league for training will be compensated with 4 points in the league table.
TRAINING
So far 8 people have received a whole morning's intensive training. To start the sequence we have been taking the two teams scheduled to bowl on lanes 25 & 26 but this fails to work after a time and then teams will be taken from other lanes, to ensure everyone is trained in turn. Their abandoned opponents will play against each other in the normal way.
Nobody loses out in the league because of training and it might actually improve your game!

It was agreed by the club:
Chairperson - Lesley
Secretary - Paul
Treasurer - Julie
Competition, fixtures and scoring manager - Martin
League format for 2009/10 will be doubles. (To start as soon as teams are agreed.)
5 parents put their names forward as Lane Marshals to augment the instructors.
Each week some bowlers will be extracted from the league in rotation, to receive all-morning training. Over the season this will not affect league points.
Averages will now be calculated over the most recent 21 games.

SATURDAY 29 AUGUST 2009
The summer King or Queen (delete as applicable) of the 'Heath competition ran for four Saturdays in August.
The winner was Harry 'The Panther' Smith, who won a solid silver (plated) trophy.
JUNIOR LONDON INTERNATIONAL - AIRPORT BOWL - 5-9 AUGUST
On day 1 twelve bowlers played six games, with Glen and Sam re-entering the competition. Many entrants exceeded their average, some by a considerable margin.
Special mention goes to Liam K who bowled two 220+ games, and Stevie and Josh who are not high-average bowlers but came along to join in and played well above their usual game.
Liam K, Glen, Dan and Laura qualified for the finals day. Laura came top of her group and won a trophy.
On finals day Dan Cooper was unable to return to Heathrow. This elevated Sam Pateman into a place in the finals. By chance Sam was there as a spectator and he had his bowling equipment with him so he joined the final squad, with Liam and Laura. They bowled their best but failed to win their matches. Laura forced her opponent to play all three games but he won in the end.
Glen had qualified high enough to go direct to the second round, which he won, and he won round three but his opponent in round 4 was too good. Glen moved into the losers competition, won through one round then met another high-scoring opponent and his progress was halted.
Bexleyheath was the only YBC to enter as a team and throughout Saturday and Sunday the team spirit was strong, behaviour and etiquette were exemplary, and we made a good impression as bowlers and showed ourselves to be worthy members of a strong team.
I was proud to wear the blue Bexleyheath shirt - even if blue is so not my colour. Back to red next week.

SCORE SHEETS:
Martin raised his disappointment regarding the continuation of poor completion of score sheets. Although this had been raised with bowlers on 14th March, some score sheets are still unreadable and some are unsigned. By signing the score sheet a bowler takes responsibility for accuracy and legibility - no matter who actually wrote the figures down. Check before you sign.
